When asked about the SVT Lightning as a possible comeback, the guy did not say anything; he just danced right around it talking about what SVT has on the board, now. Gas prices, single cab, big iron on the decline, domographic changes....I've got to think it may be a while, if ever for a new Lightning. He was preaching the Sport-Track in 06 and the Shelby in 06 or 07.

I think this latest round of price incentives, although it did sell cars for the big 3, will come back to haunt all of them from a profit standpoint! |

they were making hardly any money off them, and once the incentives are gone, whose going to buy one????

Mr. Tang seems like a knowledgeable fellow...but, I don't think he has gasoline running through his veins like Coletti does! Tang appears to be more conservative to me! |

With 2 new plants in the works, and more cash in the bank than Walmart, Toyota could buy Ford, GM and DC in a single transaction. But why would they. Its much easier to put them out of business... If you are serious, I would call Ford direct and they will tell you exactly where new 04's are located. But I have to think that this black one was one of the last. I really like the SRT-10 mainly because it is a true performance vehicle but after parking next to one the other day, I really find the front end goofy, gaudy and grotesque. It has a great engine and a nice interior but I couldn't own that vehicle. Toyota makes a great handling pickup; the X something, but it really isn't a total package without the expensive TRD upgrades. Even then, it would still have rear drum brakes and is not a performance vehicle in my books. IMO, the only truck I would buy is still the Lightning. I am sure there are still plenty of low mileage stock vehicles out there. any year is a great buy. Red

| Former Participant | One reason I don't expect to see a new L anytime soon is that I've read that Ford plans on making major changes to the F-150 chassis within something like 2 years. Supposedly, that's one reason they gave up -- at least for the time being -- developing the Gen 3 L. Add into the mix the way we're being raped at the gas pumps, and I wouldn't be surprised if Ford comes to the conclusion that there's no longer a big enough market for a truck that burns expensive 91-octane gas at the rate of 14 MPG. Not that this is necessarily a reliable indicator, but used Gen 2 Ls don't seem to be selling on e-bay, either. I've noticed that lately, the auctions seem to be ending without anyone bidding anywhere near what the buyer is asking. I'm sure the situation will improve as gas prices drop, but those gas prices probably have already put a long-term hurtin' on the resale values of gas guzzlers like the L and the SRT-10. |
