There is an adjustment screw on the top of the steering box that drives the pitman gear deeper into the worm gear eliminating play. Loosen the jam nut and tighten the adjustment screw with an allen wrench, only turn it about 1/2 turn at a time in and test it until the play is gone. It is easy to go too tight. You will need to be holding the allen wrench when you back off the jam nut or you will back off the adj. screw. I did this on my 04 with 22,000 miles and it made a difference. All worm gear steering boxes are adjusted like this.

What he said. I was having the same issue with my truck. I had like a 1/4-1/2" of play in it and the truck was wandering all over the road. Adjusted the screw on the top of the steering box a little at a time and test drove it. I repeated that in small increments until the steering felt solid again. And like he said, don't go overboard or you will make the backlash too tight in the gears and bind them up.
