Question Need to know what to look for!

I need help!!! I am going to look at a used 99 L tommorow. I need to give an answer to the Ford dealer if I am willing to trade my Lariat in for the Lightning. I do want the truck but I dont want to buy a junker or one that has been beat to death. What do I look for. Please help!

Run a carfax.com report if you have the VIN. Check to see if the intercooler has been replaced. Take the L out and warm it up slowly--for 15 mins or so and then, hammer it! See what it does, how responsive it is.

Don't let the dealer rush you--you don't have to do the deal tomorrow, do you? Believe me, he wants to sell that L more than you want to buy it.

Good luck,

Dan

I'd be looking for Mods. No reason to put headers, chips, trani kits, T converters in something your not planing on standing on. One or two performance mods depending on what they are, but i'd be looking for my bone stock truck with service records. Does it have any warranty left? you never mentioned price, milage, condition ect...Edmunds said 16,500 to 20, Kelly said 20 for a '99 with 50000miles in good cond. Service records, condition and Mods. Who owned it? Was it a 1 owner? Was it an older guy or a kid? Good luck.

Hehehe, at our last L meet the olders guys were the ones beating the crap out of their trucks .

Check way up in the rear wheel wells for rubber chunks, check the computer terminals and see if they have been cleaned for a coumputer install. Look in the bed for holes taht might have held Nitrous bottle brackets. Good luck.

What are the conditions of the tires/brakes..

Tell the dealer you want an independent mechanic of your choice to check the vehicle out before you sign..

As stated above maint records are key..

How many miles are on it??

Rear tires worn or replaced at low miliege, warning sign, any mods as previosly stated in another post, or excessive grease marks or broken seals on nuts and bolts evidence of tampering, I have 12000 on my 2000 and it looks and smells like new, and I do not race or abuse my truck at all, so your truck should be the same with low mileage, but I caution you when buying a factory performance truck chances are it has been knocked around check it closely.
