Post The big business of making Fake Lightnings

For almost a year, I've been monitoring eBay to get a set of Gen2 Lightning badges for my Gen1, and I'm still shocked. Emblems are selling hand over foot, dozens every week, or absurd prices!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...item=600058610

Emblems going for at least $20 each, and people are buying complete sets. The only thing I can imagine is that all of these buyers are using them to make their F150s into fake Lightnings. It's a crying shame. Even the seller of that auction half-admits to it:
Quote:
The factory installation has one "Lightning" on each fender and a "SVT-150" emblem on the tailgate. However, they are interchangable! You can put "Lightning" on the tailgate or "SVT-150" on the fenders.

I installed these on my truck and nearly every day someone comments on my "Lightning"

And then you have the obligatory fake Lightning on eBay, with fake badges:

I don't know, I'm just really sick of it all today. It's impossible for me to buy Lightning parts at reasonable prices because of the amount of non-Lightning owners out there buying Lightning parts to put on their poser trucks.

Cool

Hey Brian, I dont know if you realize this, but us Gen1 guys cannot get the original Lightning stickers anymore. We have to get the Gen2 badges and put them where the F150 was on the fenders. Ive seen a lot of Gen1 Lightnings with the Gen2 badges. This could be the reason for some of the sales but Im sure the "posers" buy a lot also.

I'm not right now, but will in the future, when I get the paint job done. I just keep faithfully watching eBay for that 'deal of the century' that sometimes comes up I'll contact you if I don't come across any in the future though. Thanks.

That truck on ebay really pisses me off. I say we all email that guy with a very simple letter to voice our disproval:

Dear Sir:

You suck.

Thumbs up

Any good sticker shop can reproduce these stickers pretty cheap, and in your own color. I looked into it when I had my 95. If you guys want another color other than the factory colors, go check out a local shop that does vinyl stickers and detailing.
