Post What will happen this year

Just thinking about this years racing season.
How fast are our trucks going to be? I went to alot of tracks last year 2001. At the start it seemed to be most lightnings were having a hard time getting in the to high 12 sec. range.
Middle of the year I was running 12.30s on a 75 shot of NOS. At that time I was faster then most or all the lightnings at the tracks I was going too.
End of the season I see guys running mid 12's on stock tires! And we now have a few lightnings in the 11 sec range. Can't wait to see the first 10 sec run. Think it will happen this year. I sould be in the LOW 12 sec range. WITHOUT NOS this time.

I positive that we will see a number of 10 sec trucks hit the scene this year. With your new set up a larger shot of gas and a good hook on some slicks?????? It might be you!

I am not going to run NOS this year. Just what I have on my truck now. I would love to get a nice E-fan set up though.

First off I like your flames. I am sure you will reach your goal of low 12 without NOS, I bet it will scream when you hit the switch. Also when the 28 inch E/T streets, or Hoosiers come out for 16 inch rims, your times will drop.

I think we will get some answers come March. There are a few guys that will be at FFW in Orlando, shooting for low 11's or high 10's It should be interesting to see what happens.

My track doesn't open up until April weather permitting, but in New England who knows when it will open.

My goals are to get into the 11's I am getting a set of slicks, doing some engine work, long tube headers and a torque converter. Hopefully it will lower my E/T's about 3/4 of a second.

Don,
I see you ran a 12.45 on F1's! That would make me very happy! I hear your truck is at JDM? Nice people there. They treated me good. Long drive from michigan to his shop though. Glad I did it.

Thumbs up

lightning Jeff:
Any drive to JDM is worth the trip in my opinion. I also think you will see a handful or two Lightnings break into the tens this year. I know there will be at least 3 to 4 of us New England Boys trying to do it. I will try first to do it with out the juice and see how it goes, and I will have the spray on stand-by if I need it. It will be a very fun and interesting year. Good luck to you on your goals and may the new year shine brightly on the whole Lightning community.

What will happen? My truck will run 11's at least in the spring or fall and will be running a 16in 28 tall slick not made by m/t or hoosier.Either that or i will break some rods trying and spend half the year saving for a rebuild.

Ya I was and still am very happy with the 12.45 on F1's. It was one of them perfect days, warm track cool air. My truck averaged more around 12.5-12.6's on more normal days.

I agree the folks over at JDM allways treat, and feed me good when I go there. to me it is worth the 300 mile ride to get them to work on my truck.

Are you going to fill us in on the other 28" tires for a 16" rim?? Please fill us all in.

Don, i will fill you in after i get mine ordered... my source took the holidays off and i can't order till nex't week. These wrinkle walls will not be for everyone as i am told there only 10-10.5 wide.I only want tall slicks sooner in order to try for 11,s in the spring. Just as soon as i can order a pair..then anyone who is impatient like myself can have the info. I think most will opt for the m/t's in mid to late summer, or the hoosiers whenever they will be out. In no way would i imply that these will be better than those brands, but those companys have a habit of bringing new product to market well after promised.

Don, I got big lunch when I was there too..

Greg, Dont say anything about your truck blowing up, that would suck! Stanton opens in April, any other close track open befor Stanton. I am sure Norwalk might. Long drive though.

Jeff, i heard from two old timers at stanton at the end of the season that the owner was mad about losing the nmra and of course the bigger televised events to u.s. 131 drag way and would switch from ihra to nhra,if this is true i might only get to run 11's cageless once or twice but i do no for sure that martin is ihra instead of nhra.According to the new owner who sank millions into it,ihra is the future of drag racing. It is nice to have two of the best tracks in the midwest within 45 minutes. For you to get to martin you would go to kalamazoo then north about 15 miles on 131 freeway. Jeff check out www.chasinracin.com for info on what tracks are open early. greg

Just a reminder. I was told and have read that these trucks remain reliable up to high elevens/low 12s on the stock bottom end. Its easy to loose sight of this when were so much fun beating up LS1 Zs and vettes. Trust me, I blew up my formulas LT1 w/ only 25k(doo)and was to far into it to warranty it, Hence the 396 stroker. It would have been alot less money to begin with had I built a bottom end to handle the mods and that is the way I handled my latest project on my 93 lx coupe. My advise to you guys wanting to go low 11's or into the 10's is to go ahead and take the extra time and dough and build your short block to handle the stress (better rods,pistons,etc...) Believe me it will save you big time in the long run because when a motor blows under pressure it usally aint pretty. Most cases end in ruined blocks and destroyed heads. If you need proof check out JDMs pictures when he blew his up making an 11.60 pass(www.teamjdm.com). Good luck guys!!!

i1again:
The three to four guys that I was talking about will have built lower ends. I agree with you, that if you are going after low 11's or the 10's get your lower ends built up, we all have too much money invested (or wasted the way my wife thinks) in these trucks to try to take short cuts. So I will second that, If you are shooting for low E.T's then build up the short block to take the extra abuse.
