| Guest | Here is the photo of the worst of the three fouled plugs from "Smokey" my 01 L with 2000 miles on it. For more info see my other post on "Smoking and oil consumption". ------------------ Thanks, John Kerr 01 White Lightning "Stock and Smokin!!" | Guest | I know I'll get 'flamed' for this suggestion. If you hadn't already taken it to the dealer for evaluation, I would have tried something that has kept a lot of engines running(good) for me for a long time. (I think it's your rings--don't know how they could have failed to seal so soon.) I would have tried a quart of eng. 'flush(KM--I think) in the crankcase--let it idle for 5 mins. and then drain and refill. It's supposed to be used only on high-mileage engs. but maybe it would have freed up the stuck rings--if that's what's wrong? I got 300,000 miles out of a 86 Saab 9000 Turbo--that was 'rode hard and put away wet' many times(driver's schools and autoxs) Eager to hear what the problem was. Please, no flames--I'm 'sensitive'. | Guest | Alright Dan, get your flame proof suit on !Actually the compression and leakdown tests were completed and the results were near perfect. I would think if it was the rings that something would show up there. If it was just a broken oil control ring or somehow the grooves got lined up on the rings I think it would smoke all the time and it doesn't. No flames from me as I want this thing fixed so "I" can try to break it! Made me sad to see it sitting all alone today in a big empty shop as I headed out towards the 02 Sable loaner. ------------------ Thanks, John Kerr 01 White Lightning "Stock and Smokin!!" |

| Guest | Hey guys I agree with how the plug looks but the injectors checked out ok in a Ford balance test and leak down test. Unless the chip was causing it (chip removed before testing) that would be the only explanation. If you look at the plug (photo isn't the best) it has a large amount of build up on it that has turned a dull grey ash color (thought that kinda pointed towards oil). I'll go smell the oil for fuel contamination, truck is getting great gas mileage though and is losing oil. Keep the ideas coming. ------------------ Thanks, John Kerr 01 White Lightning "Stock and Smokin!!" |
