Post BAD FUEL > NEED ADVICE

Hey all Rickyracer here,

I accidentally dumped 8 gal. of 87 oct. in my L and with my mods it was pinging terrible. So dumbass me, I took 5 gal of 110 oct. race gas that I had for my 4-wheeler and dumped it in to try to dilute the 87 so it wouldn't ping. I failed to remember that the TORCO 110 race gas was LEADED. So basically I have a mix of just plain nasty **** sitting in my tank right now. Is there a way to drain the tank or do I have to syphen it out? How 'bout pulling off the fuel line? I just want to know the best, and fastest way to do it.

I appreciate it guys.

Don't sweat the 5 gals of leaded race fuel.

It's not enough to do any damage, especially if you go fill it up with some good gas to dilute it further.

A buddy destroyed his Cat and o2 sensors after 2 tankfuls of leaded gas (not in the L, about 40 gallons)... claimed he didn't know the 110 he was using was leaded?!

Dont know what 5 gallons will do... maybe nothing as BadDog said.

If it was my truck, i'd get a long hose and syphon the gas out of the truck (keep the end lower than the gas tank level, etc.). If you have a power drill, you can get a pump attachment for it. Just my $0.02.

I would get that leaded gas out. Even 5 gallons diluted will probably damage the O2 sensors and the cat. Syphon it out just like Dreamin said. The O2 sensors are EASILY damaged by leaded fuel. Been there done that with my Grand National.

Cool

using a hose, push in while blowing other end until you hear the fuel bubble. wrap plastic bag around hose balling it up, slide it down the hose and push against the tank nozzle. while holding this as a seal, blow into tank to build up pressure, then quik as you can lower end of hose below tank level. (into a container)hold plastic as long as you can, as this will push the fuel out faster for a period. beats drinking the fuel!

I've never been able to get a big hose in the 99 to siphon gas but I was able to get a 1/4 hose in. (This is where I usually get my lawnmower gas ) I would get it out. I'm not sure how much leaded gas it takes to ruin the o2 sensors or the cats but why take the chance. Immediately fill tank with 93 once you get as much of the leaded out as you can.

THANKS EVERYONE!

I think I will play it on the safe side though and drain as much as possible out of it. I don't want to take any gambles here because I'm far from confident in my warranty anymore w/ my mods. Thanks again for the tips.

Oh My God, that bowling ball is my WIFE!!!
I was a siphoner during the last gas shortage, lol. School buses, thats all i'm sayin',hahaha. Anyway, the last 5gal in a 25 gal tank is gonna be hard to siphon out. You can use a 1/4" hose and try, but, oh ya, you got 10 gal in, so get out 5-6 and go fill it up. Call it lawn mower gas, soon to snow blower.

I saw on the news the results of a local hispanic who tried to steal as from someone elses car. The drill arced, and he had 3rd degree burns on 80 percent of his body. I guess he won't be stealing gas anymore.

JL, I hope you're correct--I put 2.5 gals of 110 leaded on top of 6(?) gals. of Texaco 93 Fri nite--the 100 unleaded pump was broken. Made 5 passes, drove home and filled up with Shell 93. No SES lite yet--fingers crossed!

Btw, ran a new best et of 13.109@104.71 with your new pulley installed(piece-a-cake). Spanked a '95 C4--my 13.126@104.30 to his 13.554@101.97 but a GNX cleaned my clock--his 11.601@119.10 to my 13.196@104.72. lol

Thanks, Dan
