Question Intercooler Idea

what do you all think about this idea???

Take the A/C lines going to the evaporator and run them into the I/C. All you would have to do is put the liquid line in after the orifice tube and then connect the suction side to the other side of the I/C.

You wouldnt have air in the cab, but you sure would have cold a/c in the intercooler.

The intercooler and an evaporator do the same thing, they are both heat exchangers so why wouldnt it work??
If someone winds up doing this and gets amazing performance gains, I am gonna kick myself and try to duplicate it.. but I aint doing it first... I like my a/c in the truck.. you could even tee off like a rear a/c unit and do it without losing cab a/c.. sound like a good idea to any of you all??

This is what I get for drinking the cheap stuff... JJ

Nope. AC drips on ground when running, right in front of rear tires. Can't run AC while at the track anyway, they will run you off for leaking.

Some guy has(was/still is?) already done this for the Sy/Ty's and GN's. It's called the 'Intracooler'. I don't think he uses the stock intercooler, but builds his own to work with the A/C. Supposedly it uses some special fluid that gets 'super cooled' by the A/C compressor/Freon BEFORE the 1/4 mile run. Then you turn off the A/C and it stays cold for 15 seconds or so. I 'think' he's got it worked out so that the A/C is retained in the cab too! It certainly sounds like a good idea. Start working on it!

Actually the a/c itself doesnt drip on the ground, the condensation that is formed from the heat exchange is what is dripping.. and any condensation would be like water injection and cool the incoming charge and carry more 02 with it on the way. And you should be able to make it so it doesnt stay on all the time, just at WOT or at 75% throttle so you dont condensate the motor too much.... just thoughts.. I gotta look into this more..

I deal with engineers in the environmental test chamber industry and I been pestering them about what it would take to do an ammonia system off the exhaust manifolds and what kind of capacity you could get from such system.

As was mentioned...a guy in Houston is already doing that same setup for Buicks and GMCs of the turbo variety. Remember, with the AC on it will take HP to pull the compressor as well. Granted, a significant drop in inlet air temp will overcome that...but we have to look at all the pros and cons. Later.

I have been under the hood and thinking about this more and more..

First thing I figured out was that the intercooler pump runs all the time when the a/c is on, so that helps.. and what I think I am gonna look into is running the intercooler return line thru an old Jaguar fuel cooler,(it used the a/c lowside line to cool the fuel by running them next to eachother in the same fitting)and then back to the tank, I am also going to install a temp gauge to see the temp of the fluid.

I am also thinking of running water and water wetter only.. Just like we did on the Busch and Arca cars.
I will post more when I figure out how to do all the above, but it looks promising...
