| Guest | Staged18, There have been only 2 failures that I know of with the Splitfires and at least that many with the NGK's. One was with Doug running octane booster to get rid of detonation. The other with Matt running several back to back runs using different tuners chips doing comparisons. I guess the squeaking wheel gets the grease. There have several people running Splits for thousands of miles with nothing but smiles. Ibfast, MrBBQMan (with nitrous) and me to name a few. Just because the plug is considered a gimmick plug by some who don't run them quit using them as a scapegoat for some other screw up. The next thing you know all these second gear clutch packs going out will be blamed on the Splits but if you have NGK's it will be the tranny's fault. I'm sorry but this had to be said. If you are a person who runs a chip that is detonating any at all, runs your nitrous a little too lean or never takes a plug reading then please use NGK's because I don't want to hear your whining ***** on here blaming the Splits because your wife left you. P.S. Staged18 this is not pointed at you but at the masses. ------------------ Later, Chuck Member# 497 Black 00 Chuck's Lightning Page [This message has been edited by LTNBOLT (edited 05-01-2001).] [This message has been edited by LTNBOLT (edited 05-01-2001).] |

| Guest | Here's a good question. It is common knowledge amongst supercharged Mustang tuners that the best way to go is with a standard Autolite/Motorcraft plug about 1 heat range cooler than stock. I have been told almost universally never to use a platnum or splitfire plug on my supercharged stang. I guess the reason is that they tend to foul quite easily. So why is it that the supercharged Lightnings tend to like these kind of plugs? Somebody please enlighten me!! |

I just want to clarify I wasnt using anything as a scape goat. 2 plugs broke in less than 2000 miles using the same chips that the stock plugs had tolerated for 14,000+ miles. Yes there was some detonation when I didnt use octane boost, which is why I was using it. You are free to draw your own conclusions, but simple logic would say that if the only thing that changed was the plugs and they proke then there MIGHT be something up with the plugs. Maybe those 2 were flawed somehow. If you are having good luck with them great. Im happy for you. In the same way you are sharing your positive results with splitfires I was sharing my results. Which I thought was the point of these forums. Doug | |

| Guest | Doug, I'll admit I was a little harsh but I was trying to make a point. I had read in the TALON section a post you made about detonation with your chip and that's bad no matter what plug you are running. A lot of people are running the stock plugs with no problems but this is the very plug everybody is screaming to take out because they have more failures than the other 2 combined. Have you been running octane booster for 14,000 miles on the stock plugs with this same chip. I'm just saying if you have something funky going on with your engine or tuning stay away from the Splitfires and let nature take it's course. There are a lot of people running these plugs but they stay in the closet because of threads like this. ------------------ Later, Chuck Member# 497 Black 00 Chuck's Lightning Page [This message has been edited by LTNBOLT (edited 05-02-2001).] |
