Question Help from '01 Owners!!

I thought I have been paying close attention to the boards, and I haven't seen anyone else mention this problem (which makes me even more worried). My 2001 L has a really wierd "soft spot" under moderate to heavy acceleration. Around 3100-3200 RPM the truck just stops pulling. The tach drops down about 300 RPM and the boost guage drops about 4 lbs. It feels as though its something with the torque converter locking up or something. Sometimes it is actually rough and jerks the truck a bit. No clunking or anything...the truck just plain stops pulling for a split second. Please tell me I am not the only one having this. High perf. autos are new to me, and I don't understand what it could be. All I know for sure is that it doesn't feel like it should act like that. Can anyone help me out?

Question

I have the same problem. It is inherent to all 2001's. There has been other post with the same problem. Not sure what the fix is. I am sure a chip would fix this.

I may be totally out of whack here, but your handle doesn't give a very good first impression.

Thumbs up

Lightning
All gen 2 lightnings were programmed to drop 4 cylinders between shifts at wide open throttle, to help the transmission live a little longer. There is also some other little things going on in there that the chip tuners could help you out with.
I'm not sure if that is what you are feeling, but if it is, then it can be fixed.

I havn't noticed this problem. I have noticed that about half way through each gear it jerks a little and accelerates more quickly for a split second. Feels like the converter is locking up at the top of the gear. I have also noticed the cylinder dropping during shifts. See my post titled "My truck farts!" for more info on that phenomenon.

Red face

I've noticed this same thing too. It has nothing to do with the shift points, but for a split second it kind of falls off and then picks back up. A chip should take care of it. Ford will prob. revise the program or wait for the '02's and give the '01's an update when in for service.

Cool

Thanks for the feedback. From what I understand I am not the only one with this "thing". I believe too that a chip would fix it, but I wasn't sure I wanted to chip it. That would be nice if Ford came out with an update, I'm sure that soft spot is worth a few tenths in the 1/4. But anyhow...thanks again guys.
