Yes, they just put the Vortech name on it for the kit. They have made two different BTM's over the years. In the two blower i got the BTM's did not look the same.

There is some difference, I haven't seen a vortech BTM in a while, but I know on the MSD 6BTM you cannot adjust the onset. On the regular MSD BTM that you use in confunction with a 6AL you can make it work so that it wont start pulling timing until after you reach a certain level of boost, giving you a much more usable/tuneable timing curve. I don't think the Vortech BTM has that feature.

No I can't take it...LOL No I have to find a cartech fmu and get my tuner. I am think that I might try and find a deal on a used tuner since I am only going to be using it for shift points, and speed limit remover etc, I won't need the latest and greatest. I just hope that I will be able to get a decent tune like that. Craig |

Well, yeah I forgot to mention that as well. I will have to do whats nec. to make the computer work with the 42's, but I don't think that I can rely on just the tuner for my fuel curve since it has no boost reference and the turbos make boost at such low rpms. It goind to be a learning curve for sure. Craig |

I guess they didn't think they need extra spark??? What do you mean? Doesn't the msd add extra spark? I know that my vortech came with the crane as well. Thanks Craig |

I just called vortech and you guys are right, the vortech btm only retards tioming and does not amplify the spark. Well that f%#$ sucks. I thought I was getting a good deal, when I actually didn't get much of anything. I wonder if the damn thing can be used in conjunction with the 6a so that I can retard timing while the 6a amplifies the spark? How well will the stock ignition handle 10 #'s of boost? Should have done my homework instead of buying the part so fast. |
