My 4.56's are ordered

and will be installed on Thursday. I would really like to be able to get a couple track passes in on Friday. If my mph stays the same as before, I will cross the 1/8th in "D" at 4250 rpm vs now at 3750 and some change. This wil allow me to cross at 275 rwhp @ 4250 rpm instead of only getting 245 rwhp@3750 rpm as it sits now. This is comparing the rpm to my dyno graph, so real world numbers could vary. If I hate it, the shop said $175 to put it back. I hope I don't hate it. I will post results as soon as I go to the track and get back home. I wonder if I should break in the gears first and give it a week or several hundred miles. I've always just got on my vehicles after a gear swap.

i know you're supposed to put 500 easy miles on gears and then change the gear oil and its good to go. ive toasted an entire rear end due to not breaking it in right... the pinion bearing failed and destroyed my ring and gear, carrier and also twisted the splines on both axle shafts. went from being a 400 dollar regear to well over a grand the second time around. *shrugs*

That's also why I need to keep a large converter and I can't run a 9.5" PI converter. I need the surface area I suppose, but I don't fully understand it.

i have overhauled hunderds of rears at the dealer and never once have the customer come back in aft "break in"

your rear end was not set up properly and most likely there was too much pinion pre-load causing bearing failure.....

Hey Paul, little off topic here but, ..................do these E4OD's lockup in "D" immediately and even under full throttle?

no if they lockup immediatly it would stall the engine. they lock in gears 2-4 based on tft, engine load and other inputs. yes they do lock at wot.

Gears are being installed as I type this. I'm excited and I really hope to make it out to the track no later than wed of next week. last time out I ran a 9.4 with a 2.3 60' time. I hope to cut a 2.1XX 60' time and run a 9.2 in the 1/8th. It was over 95 degrees my last outing and I expect it to be even hotter this next time out. Damn Tx heat!

Glad I did the gears. One of the clutch disks was broken in half and part of it was sitting in the bottom of the differential. Had to order a Trac Lok rebuild kit. Guess i won't have it back until tomorrow, but at least it's back together the right way.

Can't really compare the track times now with a new trac lock. Unfair advantage to the 4.56's. Now if the 4.10's still out perform the 4.56's then we will know the 4.10's are better for sure.
