| Guest | Well if we are going to do this, there's no time like the present. Perhaps we can start this right here in this thread. We can get some raw material down and maybe someone could format it all purty later on. I mean there's no point in discussing what to do with new content until we have it, right? I'll start by throwing out some questions I've had, or have seen asked a lot. You guys can feel free to post answers, or more questions. 1.) How do i set the timing on my truck? 2.) Why is my front end shuddering? 3.) Why is my truck running rich? 4.) What is 'pinging' 'detonation' and 'pre-ignition'? 5.) What grade of gas should i run? 6.) Is there a cheap way to stop axle hop? 7.) How can i lighten my lightning for the drag strip? 8.) What are some suggestions for making my truck handle better? 9.) Where can i get some nice rims for drag radials or slicks? 10.) What kind of front skinnies can i use? 11.) What's the best setup for my air filter? Stock airbox with K&N panel, cone replacement of airbox, cone on the tb, or relocated elsewhere? 12.) What's the best supercharger for my application? 13.) How tough is it to install a supercharger? 14.) What else do i need with my supercharger install? 15.) What is speed density? 16.) Do I need mass air? 17.) What is an EEC tuner? 18.) What will a performance chip do for me? 19.) How often do i need to change the oil, tranny fluid, rear end fluid, brake fluid? 20.) Why does my truck smell like coolant? 21.) Should i change the gears in my rear end? Higher or lower? 22.) When do i turn off overdrive? 23.) Should i shift the truck manually? 24.) Can i install a 5 speed transmission? 25.) What are the check engine codes, and what do they mean? 26.) Why won't my horn & cruise control work? 27.) Why does my truck shift so hard? 28.) How can i make my truck shift harder? 29.) What size are all the speakers in the truck? 30.) Where can i mount a subwoofer and amplifier? 31.) Can I buy an aftermarket jump seat? 32.) should i use synthetic oil? 33.) Should i buy an aftermarket torque converter? 34.) What basic cheap mods should i buy? Those were just a few off the top of my head. I know we've had some really good discussions in threads about all those topics and more. I didn't even get into the "where can i buy _____?" or "who makes the best ______?" questions. I guess those would be better for the parts list. I suppose it would be most helpful to organize those questions into a categories something like this: I.) Maintenance A.) Powertrain B.) Suspension C.) Exterior D.) Interior II.) Repair A.) Powertrain B.) Suspension C.) Exterior D.) Interior III.) Performance & Mods A.) Powertrain B.) Suspension C.) Exterior D.) Interior E.) Racing Tips Does anyone particularly want to take ownership of one of these documents? If nobody else wants it, 'll volunteer to own the FAQ, and develop it by adding your questions and answers, and then eventually publish it somewhere on this site. Someone else can handle an updated parts list and we can just have individuals write up detailed procedures for whatever they like. |

| Guest | Way to go BLOG! A lot of this stuff has been wrote about before, it is trying to find it that is the hard part. Really the only shortfall of this forum is: good stuff gets posted here all the time and once it gets past say 30 days old it is gone unless you can suceesfully search it. Point is this stuff needs to be added to the FAQ or tech section as we get it. There are a lot of guys with personal expertise that can take a subject and write it up with pics ect. for Ex. Raymond could cover all the FAQ's on the EEC tuner and EEC4 components. Jeff wrote an article a time back on the merits of each kind of Supercharger. There are a few guy doing Intercooler fabs that would make some really cool write ups. ect. Point is there are a lot of folks on here that know their stuff and have been around the block that could help others with their knowledge. One thing I have learned about this Gen 1 section is that everyone is willing to share their info, unlike a few other clubs I've been in! Jump in guys grab a topic and do some research and write it up. Then send it to Jeff so he can grade it before putting it up, lol. I'd like to add: 1)What do I need to know to participate at the dragstrip for the first time?(been done before by someone, great article but can't find it) 2) How do I install and hookup Electrical fans? (I've done this one) 3) Driveshaft loop- Do I need one? 4) How much HP will my 19lb injectors make, can I just drop a set of 24's in? 5)What off set wheels do I need for my drag radials? 6) What brake rotors and pads work the best? 7) What are the parts of the EEC4 system and where are they and what do they do? Thats a big one and we need that one bad, Ray? Steve [This message has been edited by sstock (edited 01-07-2002).] [This message has been edited by sstock (edited 01-07-2002).] |

| Guest | Sorry guys just read the post I made and I don't mean to be assigning jobs to Ray or Jeff, I was merely making an example of them, lol. Point is if you have a good knowledge of any point here or and other point that you think is important to our trucks and would like to do a write up, tell BLOG so he can keep a list and set a schedule date. I know we are all busy here and have jobs and family and if you can't dedicate the time right now, give yourself a bigger window to complete it. For instance I would gladly wait 6 months for say Jerry to get all his pics and write up down on his intercooler fab, to include before and after dyno runs...(hint hint). See my point. I just really believe paying members of NLOC should enjoy this , not to mention it could be a great time saver and money saver as well and allow our clup to grow and prosper. Later Steve PS BLOG, I would be willing to help any way I can. ------------------ 94 Crimson #2826 Born May 6, 1994 NLOC member #343 Team Powerdyne, 13.49@ 102mph Wanting 12's Home page: http://www.topworldmusic.com/greased/ |

| Guest | well what i think I want to do is get a basic skeleton of the faq made up. Then guys can look at it, and add questions to it, and contribute answers wherever they can. I'm trying to figure out whether we should include parts-specific info in the faq or have a separate parts list that has discussions about that stuff. Like do we want a section in the faq about the various tires available? Or do we just want to have that on the parts list? Sparkplugs, superchargers, cams, heads, roller rockers, traction bars, rims, rollpans, hardcovers, gauges, spacers, hoods, intakes, etc etc. Perhaps we make allow for discussion of the merits of various brands in the faq, but just have a plain list of part numbers in the parts list. |

| Guest | BLOG and Steve, There is one thing I would add. I don't know if this is possible due to the space required and such, but have you heard the phrase a picture is worth a thousand words? We use Digital photos in our Preventive maintenance programs here at work and it is so nice to be able to pull up a job and see photos of the actual process. It makes all the difference in the world sometimes. I have one and as I do things to my truck I'd be willing to take photos and write the description of the task at hand. I recently changed the fuel sending unit in one of the tanks and I think it would be a pretty easy write up. Just some food for thought. I'm going to be doing a differential cover/axle girdle in the near future and I'll do it as well. Chris |
