Question ack...new lower is shorter than stock!

hey guys,

it appears the ported lower i acquired has been shaved 1/2 inch off the top. how will this affect things...good/bad/no noticable difference.

i do have a 1" spacer, but i dont know that putting it under the KB is such a good idea?!?

Where Y'at Muddy, Is your spacer plastic or phenolic? I think the phenolic would hold up with some tacky glue on the gaskets. If it don't work, buy a hunk of 1" Al. stock & get friendly with a drill press.
BTW what are the specks on this Long Rod motor I keep hearing about. And were are the HP gains coming from? Just wondering

Cool

heya abby,

the spacer i have is phenolic, but im not in any hurry to stuff it under there. im thinkin that 1/2 inch on a blown motor probably wouldnt hurt much, but im still curious as to what y'all think...

shorter = less torque, but more horsepower...or do i have that thoery all messed up too?

as for the long rod, if you can find the Jan and Feb back issue of 5.0 Mustang, youll see what all the fuss is about. the article is called "The 351 Ford Should Have Built".

i see it as a viable alternative to the stroker as they got a .030 over 351 to put out 401hp @ 5000rpm and 458tq @ 4000rpm on the stock fuel injection, electronics and emissions. all this and running 11:1 compression on 87 octane...for less than 3 grand

...of course this is all just a back up plan in case of cautostrauphic failure

Muddie, with the torque the twin-screw blower makes, you wont notice the missing half-inch at all.

IMHO it gives you another half-inch to work with when you get around to your "enhancement" project.

Hey Mudd,
What stroker motor are you talking about. I just built a 378 with 3.70 offset grind stock crank and 6.00 inch rods with 302 pistons. Is that the one?

the engine Hot Rod built used a stock 351 crank with 6.2" (+-?) I 6 rods and custom JE pistons. I'll have to dig up the mags to find out more
