Post Squeeling noise

I have a squeeling noise coming from the drives side of the motor. It is either the belt tensioner, alternator, or air pump. I think it is the belt tensioner. It makes a horrible squeeling noise when at idle. Anyone had to replace or fix the belt tensioner? What does this cost? Damn everything is breaking all at once. I wonder what it will be next.

Ya I did and I suggest you to get it changed ASAP cause if you do it will lock up and go in to 100 pieces and you will be stranded like I was I got it at my local Ford Dealer for $42 and it is very easy to change the hardest part is to get the belt back on

So, when you had a problem with the tensioner, did it whine or squeele to indicate a problem?

I did both of mine...they were both making "dry bearing" sounds. The one with the spring I got at the local parts store & the fixed one I got at the dealer. 20 minutes total...Do the belt too while you're there! My fan or fan clutch still makes a little swishing sound though.

I suggest that you take the belt off and give the pulleys a spin. When you spin the pulleys listen for a dry/rough sound or a chirping sound. If you hear either that is more than likely where the squeal is coming from. Also you can by just the pulley for the tensioner. If the spring in the tensioner isn't seized/broke & if the pulley has the noise replace just the pulley for about 1/2 the cost.

I replaced mine with units from Napa. The price was comparable and it was relatively easy. Just be careful with any spring loaded tensioner. If you slip and let it flop your likely to break it. I had one that was really snug fly apart on me when I let it slip on a Cougar once.
