Post Anyone ever replace the diverter valve, or related parts?

I have an exhaust leak in mine somewhere. Either in valves, or the tubing. I have a diagram of the area, provided by my Ford parts counter, with every info I need. However, I just can't get back there

There's less than 4" of clearance between the intake and the firewall. Enough to put your hand in there, but not know what you're touching. Maybe if the hood could come off, but I don't see that happening.

Has anyone ever replaced theirs? I know of one person, but he did it while the engine was out. How do you get back there to do it?
