Check out my traction mod. - click on the link in my signature. I clamped my rear slapperbars up to the top leafsprings. This eliminated wheel-hop totally. ALso, for weight, I removed the spare and tailgate.

Try this to drop a few pounds, i put a tube bumper on the back insted of the regular bumper. By doing that I droped about 20 to 30 pounds. Also removed the front gas tank. Smog eguipment can drop about 20 pounds. X pipe and foward exit exhaust drop a lot of weight to but I never got around to exactly weighting the old versus the new.

That tube bumper is still a chunk of lead...I would go to a roll pan.. I plan on doing this sometime, but with a good old price of channel iron behind it to strength the rear chassis(keep it from flexing) and to act as a bumper...This might negate the weight savings, but atleast it'll look better.

I would go with a slight lowering kit, and some 50 series tires to eliminate sidewall flex. A panhard bar for better axle location..Some more caster up front and progressive rate coils along with beefier sway bar(if you can find them).. I think Ruslow put on Nascar brakes on his Gen1(I believe 4 wheel disk Wilwoods)

For the ulimate I think a whole new rear suspension with Coil Overs would be awesome...Maybe when I get some time and money I'll have to design something like that, shouldn't be too difficult(handy dandy AutoCAD 2000 to the rescue)
