Post What is it that helps 60ft times?

I took my truck to the track last thurs. It was about 90* and real humid. I had like a 2.2 60ft time. How do I get this better? I dont spin at all. My truck has pulleys, K&N filter in the stock box and bassani ceramic headers. I cant get past 15.2! Not sure but looking at everyone else I should be running at least 14.9 or lower. Thanks jason

It takes two things to get a good 60 ft. times: torque and traction. You should be able to do better than 2.2 with your combination. My 6 cylinder truck with 3.08 gears and a peg leg rear end gets 2.3's. One thing I noticed is that you didn't list any of the free mods. There is some time to be gained by increasing the timing and some other little things like that. One cheap mod is the 87-92 (aka deisel) air tube that help considerably. Maybe a different thermostat? Most guys have done these mods and all together they might be worth 3-5 tenths.

Jason, those times on that hot day are not bad for that combo. I was at the track with quite a few others last week and that was what their times were. Do what OIL says, plus try comming out of the hole stalled against the converter, say 1500 or so. Stage shallow, powerbrake against the converter then when you get the light release the brake all the way with the left foot to get the brick moving then mash it down as hard as you can.

I'll try that sstock. I have a 180* thermo, 14* of timing (or at least close) one other question, when you set the timeing, do you set it to the line on the right or to the notch that is in the middle? I might need a good tuneup! well we will see thanks jason

my best so far is a 14.96 @ 91.42 and the best 60ft ever is only a 2.20 with no tirespin. it just doesnt have the torque to go any faster off the line

Cool

heat plays a big part but it can depend upon the track conditions. before i started the bigger mods, i could get 2.0 all day long, and an occasional 1.9. this was on the stock firehawks with a K&N, Flowmasters and timing bump.

With a bone stock truck I pulled a 2.1 sec 60ft time en route to a 14.9 @ ~89mph..not too sure about the mph. it was a long time ago.

Anyhow..I just removed the spare tire, jack, and tire mounting bracket..it was a hot day in Pomona CA. My tires were the stock firestones( bald) and I dropped the pressure to 20psi.
Good luck
