| Guest | I guess my topic says it all. I never raced before Friday so I have a lot to learn. The truck ran great and the conditons were near perfect. I dropped my rear tire pressure to 22 lbs but still suffered from tire spin. Found that I did get slightly better traction when I smoked them a little first. I had a half tank of fuel and no spare on. I also didnt bump my timing because I dont have a timing light (yet). Only mods are rear-exit flows, k&n panel, and 460 tube. Anyway, here's my best run: 60' = 2.302 330 = 6.519 1/8 = 9.992 mph = 70.61 1000 = 13.033 1/4 = 15.621 mph = 86.84 rel humid. = 90 - Very strange b/c it was rising as the night went on. abs. barometer = 30.95 My best RT was .960 because they were running the pro-tree...not the best thing for a newbie I guess. The only other L was a G2, dont know the year b/c the guy was a real jerk and didnt stop to talk or anything. I ran up to his truck and he just kept on going like I wasn't even there. He ran low 13's though and BEAT A NEW VETTE!!! I loved that. I'm officially hooked!!! [This message has been edited by Johnny Cat (edited 07-30-2001).] |

| Guest | Hey Johnny Cat, having a blast is what it's all about. The best advice I got when I starting racing the L, was to not worry about times, just pay attention to the starter, and have fun. That worked for me. Now for next time, get a timing light and bump it to about 14 or 15 degrees (remember to remove the spout, and to put it back in when you finish). If you're running street radial tires, leave your air pressure at about 28 to 30 lbs. I know it seems weird, but that's where they'll work best. Then get on a sportsman (.5) tree, and leave on the 3rd yellow. And most of all - have fun with it. | Guest | I tuened it up just over 2000 miles ago with OEM. The funny thing is that when I first got the truck, it was stumbling around 40 mph pretty bad the first day...then when I got home, I looked and the rotor and cap were nearly eaten away inside. It was completely worn out. Needless to say, I tuned it up right away...I don't think the previous owner ever did. I got a question: Do our trucks hesitate from 2000-3000 rpm??? It seems to lag some in that range so I hope when I take it in for the FPR recall, it might help some. I was told that this hesitation is just the way they run with S/D instead of Mass Air. Does this sound right??? BTW Vern, what is the spout? [This message has been edited by Johnny Cat (edited 07-30-2001).] [This message has been edited by Johnny Cat (edited 07-30-2001).] |
