| Guest | Hey everyone. . . Ive got around $400 dollars to spend on what i want. Obviously the Lightning is gonna get it. What do you all recommend? Mods so far are; Bassani Equal length tuned headers MSD6T ignition Purple Hornies Glasspacks Downs Ford Roll Pan Cervinis Ram Air Hood (No Kit YET) 2" shortened 31 spline Moser racing axles 15" wheels and tires (want to replace) Here's the skinny on a few things. I want to spend this money on the truck within the next 3 weeks. . .becuase im going back to the track then. In that amount of time I think the most I could have is $500. But tell me what I should do for $400. I eventually want to do Warlock Racing mufflers and full Bassani Exhaust. . . but I cant afford that yet. . and I want to do it all at once. I have a B&M shiftkit to put in and I have to drop the exhaust to do that. . so i want to put the kit in when i change the exhaust. my friend with a Mustang is .5 sec. faster then me in the 1/8 and has me by 3 mph. What can I do to beat this. I don't want to get squeeze yet either. . .even though it's verryy tempting. I know with stock sized tires and wheels i could probably take him but i need something in the meantime to compensate. . and it could only help later. So what do you think? Pulleys + Superchips = 15-20 hp? Pulleys + Ram Air = 15 hp? Pulleys + 1.7 RR = 10-15 hp? I guess i could swing almost any combo from these 4 items. But what do you all think. This is the first $$$ that I will have put into it so i want to make it good. Thanks alot you guys. . . ------------------ Philip 93'L #247 of 5,276 best e.t. 9.25 in 1/8th bone stock |

| Guest | You will hear different opinions on Superchips for a Gen1 - mostly bad. Instead of the ram air, I would get the diesel inlet tube and a K&N (cooler air, better filter, cheaper). The 1.7 rollers won't do you that much good unless you change the springs also (they get weak). Pulleys are a must if you're not going to a blower later - get the March power& pulleys for a Mustang 5.0, they're the same for the 5.8. It's just me, but I would go ahead and put in that shift kit along with Mobil 1 synth tranny fluid. You'll probably pick up almost a tenth just on the 1-2 shift alone. Also, put the truck on a diet and lose some pounds - No, not you, the truck! Then have fun! my .02 Vern J. ------------------ VJ Racing Black 93 #3181 nloc 72 New time coming [This message has been edited by Vern (edited 06-23-2001).] |

| Guest | What kind of tires do you run. Traction is the key to good ETs. A good set of Drag Radials will give you a better ET than any pulleys or chip. Your looking at about $300 for a new set and your times will plummet. Use what power you already have. | Guest | hes allready a half second back, and tires might only pick him up 2 tenths,so i think find a used NOS system and after you hit second gear spray it! ------------------ 302 crate motor,H-pipe,2-chamber flows,Cobra induction,1 5/8 shorties,355 gears, sub frame connectors,B&M Ripper shifter, underdrive pulleys, fenderwell cold air induction with mass air,24# injectors |

| Guest | Im with cobra boy on this one.By the NOS kit used for about 300 and then put the 200 extra towards ET streets.Small shot like 150 will do the trick. ------------------ Marcus Harrison TeamPowerdyne (AKA)Sport car killer NLOC#495 Hungry out of work eat your IMPORT |

| Guest | thanks alot guys. . . now since most of you are suggesting squeeze. . .should I go with the 5115 NOS Kit or the Nitrous Works Lightning specific system? I believe the 125 wet shot from NW is better then the dry 150 Shot of NOS. Just let me know what ya think. also if you know anyone selling a nice used kit that might be helpful also. ------------------ Philip 93'L #247 of 5,276 best e.t. 9.25 in 1/8th bone stock |

| Guest | I'd vote for the used NOS 5115 dry setup and some good tires. When I had the dry setup on mine it was cake to tune, cake to install, gave a nice easy ET drop/mph increase, and best of all was under $300 used. Dig around some Mustang guys and you'll come up with a kit in that price range. 100 horse is very safe.....I ran stock EVERYTHING else with it. Two other things. The short belt trick - bypass the power steering, A/C, and smog. Also, try pulling off the air tube to the throttle body (track only!). There should be a couple of tenths in there... ![]() Have fun. ------------------ - Kevin Black '94 #907 |
