| Guest | Here are some ideas for getting a little more out of the motor; Bump the timing to 14* it's usually around 6* from the factory, you will have to run on premium gas as a result. Diesel air inlet tube, draws cold air to the airbox. Available at the local Ford stores for not much money from what I understand. (My truck already had one) 180* Thermostat brings the engine temp down a little giving you a little more power. Take as much weight out of your truck, remove spare tire for racing if you don't need it for traction, etc.. If you want to spend a little more, a shift kit, Rancho traction bars, electric fans, a supercharger or nitrous are all ways of going faster Just depends on how much you wnat to spend. -Brian------------------ 94 Red Lightning K-B Supercharger (7psi) K-B BAP K-B Switch Chip K&N Filter 180* Thermostat Diesel Tube Bassani x-pipe Ordered Crane HI-6tr, Crane lx-91 coil. 78 Trans Am 400 w/nitrous [This message has been edited by gasguzzler (edited 04-22-2001).] |

| Guest | i believe it's 10 degrees from stock, 6 is misinformation.... Of course i have been wrong before, and if i'm wrong again, i'm sure someone will pipe up and let ya all know.. but i believe 10 is stock, and 14 is possible if you use 93 octane... As a matter of fact i was at a dyno today and watched a guy run a totally stock L on the dyno, and then changed the timing to 14 degrees and picked up 7 or so hp. Damon |

| Guest | Ok, I've done some more research around here and I've found that some say 6* and others say 10*. Whatever it is, bumping the timing will increase horsepower and increase the octane level needed. Everything is a trade-off - Brian [This message has been edited by gasguzzler (edited 04-22-2001).] |

| Guest | Guys: the little diagram on the top of the grill says 6* stock and that's what mine was wayyyyy back when i got it ![]() Clinton: get the bassani headers/exhaust pulleys timing @14* good tires Any sort of K&N setup that should put you in the mid to high 14 sec range enough to toy with more than a few cars out there. I'm In The San fernando valley and i have a black 94. If you ever want to go to the street races out here let me know ![]() ------------------ 94 lightning NOS GT-40 kit @150hp Gears Pulleys X pipe Shift kit 14.5 @93 mph N/A 13.4 @100 mph w/NOS hit speed limiter at the top end ![]() |

| Guest | Mine was at 7*. It's supposed to be at about 10* from the factory. It'll say right on the driver's side valve cover, too. I've got mine sitting on 11* so I don't have to be totally eaten alive by gas prices. I'm running 87 octane. My other 351W is 10* from the factory, too. ------------------ 1994 Red SVT Lightning #2019 |

| Guest | Mine says 10* on a little sticker under the hood (drivers side). That's where its set too...87 octane or I start killin Arabs. This is ridiculus. I remember my old man *****in up a storm when gas hit 70 cents a gallon, said he was gonna trade all his cars in for a Vespa. SPEAK ENGLISH OR DIE, CL |

| Guest | Nope. No problems at all. I tried the 14* with 89 octane when I first got the truck about a month ago but I was getting just a little bit of ping at WOT. It's my daily driver, though, so I dropped it back down so I could run the 87 cheaper gas. I haven't tried any higher of a timing setting with the 87 octane. That's just where it landed. My buddy was setting it for 10*, actually, but after it was put back together the timing was at 11* so we just left it. It might be able to go another degree higher. ------------------ 1994 Red SVT Lightning #2019 |
