| Guest | Another frustrating day. Test and tune Fri noght drags at LACR. Last time i had to let off due to no traction and ran a ****ty 14.3. Well, bought some slicks(ET Streets) on some lightweight 15 in rims and they fit perfectly. 30"x12.5 Now, the tires hook great with a good burnout, but after mid track the truck gets really really really loose and unstable...in fact i kept peddling the throttle on and off for the most part of each run and never was able to keep full throttle on for more than a sec or two. The darn thing kept wanting to go into the other lane or into the retaining wall anyhow..so no complete runs and the fastest was a 14.3, with a few 15 sec passes thrown in when i let off all the way...all in all a bad bad day.First thing I am getting done is alignment!!..I need it bad..Secondly i will try to eliminate all the slop in my steering column, Thirdly i will try to learn to drive on the damn slicks ![]() ------------------ 94 lightning NOS GT-40 kit @150hp 4.56 gears pulleys bassani-x pipe dynomax race magnum duals |

| Guest | Hey Dave, I know your irritated but what you are describing is due to running slicks (bias-ply) with radial front tires. They dont mix well. Your truck is probably not out of alignment.. I have raced many years with slicks and skinny radials up front and know first hand what your talking about. This sway takes some getting used to and on a 4500 lb truck can be dangerous. I raced a 2900lb Mustang (10.80s) and it was much easier to control than a Lightning with the same set-up. Also, run as much air pressure as you can and maintain traction, the more the better for control. Better luck next time and BE CAREFUL!! Ive been very loose at 125+ MPH and its no fun cleaning your drawers. Lastly, I dont think 14.30 are so crappy, Thats what I run!! Hope this helps, Rod K.------------------ Rod K. 93 Lightning #1529 14.33 @ 93.31 so far.. 98 SVT Contour E1 #5782 |

| Guest | What psi are you running in the slicks ??? Sounds like they are too low. ------------------ Raymond, Performance Specialties |

| Guest | I took the time finally to tighten the steering box screw and take the slop out of the steering. I didn't realize how bad it had gotten until I was finished. I was probably moving the steering wheel from 11 o'clock to 1 o'clock to keep it straight. Now I just barely move it. What a huge difference! |

| Guest | Yea, those High sidewalls do tend give your truck more roll than the radials. You will get it under control with enough passes. Keep an eye on your tire pressure and keep the the rears the same. John O NLOC 52 SVT 4752 ------------------ http://www.f150world.com/e40d/ |

| Guest | Chuck, Adjusting the screw on top of the steering box takes the end play out of the sector shaft and tightens the steering box. Remind me next time we are together. I will show you. With the miles on your L, I doubt you need to adjust. ------------------ Bill S. 94 red #3200 NLOC #407 |

| Guest | Guys: I think you are correct about the tire pressure. Slicks were brand new and would not "shock" really hard untill i was at 10psi. Tooo low..anyhow, i will tighten the steering and raise the pressure when i go to carlsbad this weekend. You guys are really helpful..i'll let you know if i can finally make a full pass ![]() ------------------ 94 lightning NOS GT-40 kit @150hp 4.56 gears pulleys bassani-x pipe dynomax race magnum duals |
