| Guest | Some guys are running that Crane Cam which is speed density friendly and has 204 degrees of intake duration(about 4 more than stock). It is a flat tappet cam, all Gen 1 351's were flat tappet, although I'm told blocks casted in late 93 and up have provisions for a retro of a roller cam. Some people on this list are running rollers. There are plenty of head choices that can be considered up grades over the iron GT40's. However some guys are running ported iron versions that can hold their own performance wise. ------------------ 94 Crimson. NLOC member #343 Team Powerdyne, 13.633@ 100mph Wanting 12's |

| Guest | Most street heads are good. The Dart Windsors are claimed to gain nearly 60 hp over a stock Windsor head. You have GT-40 heads, so it won't be that much. You also have to decide if you want iron or aluminum. The stock cam is flat tappet. Upgrading to a roller is a good move. Crane offers a cam designed for the Lightning. TFS has cams matched to their heads, but they might not get along well with the computer. I'm sure someone else here will know. The rockers are a matter of personal preference. The rocker bolt is pretty wimpy, and 1.7 rockers will put more stress on it, as well as the pushrods and lifters. I don't think they have ever caused a failure, but it's something to think about. I guess the point is that you should get the cam with the specs you want instead of buying a cam and using the rockers to get the specs you want. The difference between the two is that a 1.6 rocker makes valv lift equal to 1.6 times the cam lobe lift, and a 1.7 rocker makes it 1.7 times the lobe lift. The 1.7 gets you around 7-8% more lift and slightly more duration at 0.050. The seat duration is unchanged. |

| Guest | There are several heads to choose from. For the money your best bet is trickflows. they run about $980.Rockers are relative to how much lift you want. cams are usually referenced with duration @50 using 1.6's. by using 1.7's you add about 30 more inches of lift. More lift better cylinder fill. Make sure you check piston to valve clearance.. crane makes a lightning specific cam (#2030) for the trucks. All gen 1's are flat tappet cams. The blocks are roller blocks and you can easily put in a roller cam, lifters. Just get the lifter retiners and hold down braket out of any 302 roller.....wht94 |

| Guest | Dont forgeet Edelbrock.. I have the Edelbrock Performer 5.0/5.8 heads on my 93. They are very nice peices, aluminum, emmissions legal (unless you plug the holes, he he he) and use bolt down rockers. Yes my 93's block is tapped for the hold down for roller lifters. But I stuck with a custom flat tappet cam. I say get what you want and have PSP, or someone local burn you a chip to make it run right. ------------------ Chuck P 1993#3951 (24k miles, mod'ed and lots of custom parts) NLOC#138 MiLOC#10 00 Focus ZX3 99 GT conv 91 GT (race/show car- in hibernation) |
