| Guest | My air conditioner is making noises. The noise sounds like a dry bearing. I don't have the money to get it looked at or fixed right now, and it is still winter here. I'm really worried about the pump locking the pulley, frying the belt, and leaving me stranded somewhere. Does anyone know a part number or the length of a belt to use to by-pass the air conditioning pump? I still have the smog pump, but I wouldn't object to by-passing that also. I have installed a smaller crank and water pump pulley. Currently, I have a Gates 279BC 27-0 if those numbers mean anything. Am I going to have any problems if I by-pass both the air conditioner and the smog pump? Will I have enough pulley rap everywhere? If not, I'll be playing "belt on, belt off" this weekend at a parts store. Many thanks in advance. ------------------ 1993 Lightning #3276 (14.9 @ 90MPH) 1994 Honda CBR900RR (11.3 @ 124MPH) 1985 Yamaha RZ350 Dan DeClute NLOC #312 Mechanical Engineering, Iowa State University |

| Guest | I ended up replacing the pulley and bearing assembly. I think it was $80 dollars from Ford. Don't go to napa and order just the bearing because the bearing is machine pressed into the pulley. I know you want to bypass but if you change you mind you know what you need. Buy the way there is a 2 or 3 wire plug that is on the back of the A/C pump. Disconnect that to disable the A/C compresser from comming on while using your defroster or your Mix setting. ------------------ Anyway's Keep Truckin' Shawn Black 94' Stock #1112 out of 4007 With Stereo mods. | Guest | I can probably afford $80. I run my heater on the mix setting all the time during the winter. How hard is it to change the pulley? Any special tools? I would prefer to fix the problem than avoid it, by by-passing, so thanks for the info. How do I tell if the air conditioning pump is actually working? I tried turning on the A/C, but didn't see the pump engage. Maybe a blown fuse? |

| Guest | You should be able to hear the clutches lock up in the pump which should tell you it's working(It helps if you have someone listen under the hood while someone turns it on). I didn't need any special tools. There's a bolt in the center that is like 8mm or something. Then there is a snap ring. That's all it take to take the pulley off. Besides taking off the belt. It would make it easier if you have snap ring plyers, but not having them does not make it impossible. ------------------ Anyway's Keep Truckin' Shawn Black 94' Stock #1112 out of 4007 With Stereo mods.
