| Guest | Do this seem like a good E.T. for mods done? My brother has a '93 Lightning that he bought about 2 years ago and it was bone stock when he bought it. After a tune up we took it to the track and it ran a 15.6 @ 82. In about a month we added a 9" conical K&N, March pullies, 2.5" exhaust w/2 chamber Flowmasters(cats were left on the truck), and timing was bumped up to 14*. After all this we took it out again and it ran a 15.4 @ 89. The MPH went up pretty good but we only got a .2 improvement in ET. There was no wheelspin in either of the runs. Does this seem like a reasonable time for the mods? Will removing the cats make a difference in performance? What mods would be good to do next? Thanks in advance. |

| Guest | i know the 94 and then the 95 got progressive updates on power and trans internals but could it be that much? i run 14.9@99 with a 2.0 60 foot on nothing more than a borla cat back and 20 psi in the stock rear tires. i run 13.65 @94 1.89 60 on a 100 shot of juiceon streets tires again.i launch easy or i get wheeel spin and then hammer the tires about 15 feet out of the whole. ------------------ Joseph Sinkiewicz LightningJoe95 (the next J Brown turbo stroker warrior) |

| Guest | Well first a 15.6 @82 is very bad for a stock truck. What where you 60Foot times before and after mods. With a 89MPH you should be in the 14s.Where are you from are you on MT everest LOL.How many miles are on his truck? ------------------ Marcus Harrison 95Lightning NLOC#495 1/8=7.9s@ 88MPH TeamPowerdyne |

| Guest | It's really hard to answer that question because there isn't enough info as far as location and atmosphere conditions. That makes a lot of difference. Everyone talks about ET, but here where I'm at is basically sea level. I'm gonna run a much better time that a guy in Colorado in the mountains. Plus, cool weather and humidity are factors. To me, the times seem a tad slow, but it depends on the time of year, ect. |

| Guest | Hey I had already forgotten about this post but oh well. When my brother first bought the truck two years ago it had 120,000 miles. We live down here in South Texas and he bought for $6,000 b/c it was a bank repo. We took it straight to the track after a tune up and here's what it ran in January which is about in the 70's here in texas with humidity: 60ft. 2.31 1/8th 9.91 1/4et 15.64 mph 81.3 We then installed march pulleys, k&n panel filter, moved timing to 14*, and cat-back 2 1/2" exhaust with flowmasters. After this it ran with about 80* at night with lots of humidity: 60ft. 2.19 1/8th 9.82 1/4et 15.42 mph 88.9 Now with 140,000 miles we removed all 4 cats and put in a k&n cone and on the G-tech it ran a 14.94 @ 95 but I know the mph is off on the g-techs. The weather with this run was about 60* in November of this year. All the above times are straight from the slips and we didn't remove any extra weight like the spare and tailgate was lowered but not removed. Now we ordered the powerdyne, 8lb pulley, msd 6 with BTM, msd blaster coil, B&M transpak which are all about to be installed. We did put in a new oxygen sensor, diesel inlet tube, and another tune-up was done. Hopefully the g-tech shows the real time up til now. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Erik 93 Lightning (edited 12-09-2000).] |

| Guest | Even with all the miles the motor isn't showing signs of wear like a lot of other cars. The one thing we did find bad yesterday is an injector. We found out the problem after installing the air/fuel ratio gauge. The led's were jumping up and down along with the rpm's which we noticed since the truck was bought. We disconnected one injector at a time to find out if this was the problem and sure enough it was one injector. When we disconnected the bad one, the gauge was steady and the truck stopped missing. This might be the reason the truck isn't running what others are. On my '89 Firebird formula I have 161,000 miles and am still spraying a 100 shot of NOS and running 12.8's. This is with a completely original motor but with the regular bolt-ons. ------------------ |

| Guest | Fordfreak - Trace and I pulled down the engine from my '95 a few weeks ago. It's had various blowers on it for about 60K miles (66K total miles) and around 300 passes down the drag strip, many of them well into the 12 second range. It also had about 9 quarts of coolant pumped into the crankcase when a head gasket blew and it was driven for 200 miles like that. With the exception of one cylinder wall and piston (the reason for the tear-down), everything looked GREAT. Bearings were well within visual inspection tolerances, cylinder walls looked fine, etc. I would have had no qualms about sticking a blower on that motor and running the daylights out of it. Note: This engine has had synthetic oil in it exclusively since about the 5000 mile mark. ------------------ Later! Jeff S. | Guest | Speaking of good old V-8 durability.. When I had my Mustang I blew a head gasket and pulled the heads off of it. We inspected the cylinders(this is at 110k) and the stock cross hatch was there still. It really didn't burn any oil(just leaked it..lol) and was also ran without oil pressure for a bit(twisted oil pump driveshaft). There was no ridge at the top of the cylinder. Over all it was in great shape and I too wouldn't have any problems throwing a blower or Nitrous on it. Plus the compression check showed that it was sealing fine, which is always a good thing. ------------------ Curt '93 Red Lightning #4232 http://www.geocities.com/lightning_struck93/index.html |
