Question crank

I bought a 1993 Lightning in Jan. 2000[used,1previous owner] with 59,900 miles. It now has 70,000,and just found out the crank is bad.Is this common?Has this happened to anyone else, and could it be a factory problem?

Why do you think the crank is bad? Do the bearings knock? Did you pull the pan and check it out? The chances of it being cracked are minimal because cast cranks go from cracked to broken pretty quickly. I can't think of any way to bend one either. At least not on a mild engine.

About 2 years ago I swapped a junkyard 351W into a 78 Monarch for a guy. This was followed by 3 sets of main bearings, but the crank was never hurt. That's why I'm so curious about why you think the crank is bad.

The best way to find out if you have gotten bad crank, is to taste it. You should be able to tell in a hury if your dealer switched it for some thing else. If this happens a lot, find a drug dealer you can trust.
