| Guest | The subject pretty much says it all. I had a 9" put in my lightning by a local mechanic and now my speedo doesn't function and my tranny stays in limp mode. I came to find out through many people that it is because of the absence of the exciter gear in the old 8.8". I understand that, but is there anyone that knows of a solution to this problem??? I've been told that I could use a different tranny tailshaft but I can't find anyone that knows about that either. Please help, I'm surrounded by Chevy guys and my truck is stuck in the driveway ------------------ |

| Guest | Call JC at Strange Engineering in Evanston Il. 847-869-7010. You need to have the ring gear machined in the same manner as if you were lightening the ring gear. Send them an exciter ring or take the measurments and inform them of exactly what you need taken off the back of the gear. The exciter ring needs to be put between the ring gear and the carrier/spool whichever you are using. Machining the apropriate dimension off the back side of the ring gear enables you to sandwich the exciter in place. You must then fabricate a mount for the sender by drilling a hole in the housing directly above the exciter ring. If you have any other questions, I'll try to assist you as best I can. Also, I have been informed that even if you replace the tailshaft neither the speedo nor trans will work properly because the pulse is different than that from the exciter in the rear end. A way around that is to use the tailshaft and a stand alone computer for the trans that accepts both inputs such as the one from baumann engineering. Hope this is of some help. Good luck!!! PS You could also go to a C-6 and aftermarket speedo but your ABS still won't work. |
