Adding horsepower to NLOC.net - Galleries, attachments and classifieds impacted

We are adding horsepower to NLOC.net and the forum - to accomplish that quickly we need to take as many of the images off line as possible

We will likely be closing the gallery this weekend and taking the images offline for a few hours - same with the attachments and the classifieds. Once the upgrade is done we will bring everything back ASAP

If you have trouble seeing the site after the upgrade try rebooting your PC

We moved NHTOC today - once we are done testing it we will begin the much bigger project of moving the NLOC data - thats when the galleries ETC will go down. The next step will be to close the forum for the actual move. Then we will bring it all back up in the new location.

Well Ive taken the gallery off line and am working on the attachments now - then the classifieds

The 9gb of pictures will take a while to restore -

The plan is to try to migrate the site tonight so when you wake up in the morning your browser no longer goes to California it will go to Chicago - It will likely take most of the day tomorrow to get the images back in place

The forum should be up in the am

if you are interested in the progress the old server was/is 69.59.144.132

the new one is 208.100.29.10 so those of you that want to cant tell which you are connecting to. We should be on 208.100.29.10 in the AM

Hey Doug,

I've had a few members call me this evening saying they still can not access the site...they are seeing the updating server message.

That means that thier DNS is pointing to the old server

We had 140 members on this server earlier so the DNS is set correctly and the server is working fine

They will need to reboot or flush dns

If anyone is having trouble post here

One thing you can do to clean your PC of files that might be linked to the old server is to empty Browsers local cache - temp internet files ..

This server is much faster than the previous server.

To help figure out why your experience has changed try running a tracert to the server

If you are using windows click start then go to the Run line ( or seach line in Vista ) and type CMD - hit enter and in the black window type tracert nloc.net

and if you can copy and paste the results here - at least post how many hops there are between you and the server and what the max time was in ms
