L won't start in the cold!!

Hi Guys - The temperature in this area is into the 20's every night and the garage where the L is unheated. Last Tuesday, after not using the truck for five days it would not start. I put a good shot of ether in the K&N and the engine never even coughed. The same thing happened last year; I stuck a 40,000 BTU propane heater near the front end and it finally staggered into life. That trick didn't work this year. The problem is definitely ignition and is obviously temperature related. My mechanic says there are all kind of codes available to help pin point the problem. Anyone else have this problem?
