Wine Making

I've always wanted to make a barrel of wine and this year I am. A friend of mine has 60 acres of Cabernet grapes and he and I are in the process of making 2 barrrels.

It's been a fun process so far but it does involve a bit of time and work. In the end I should end up with 59 gallons which results in 25 cases of wine. Great Christmas gifts for next year.

Has anyone else ever made there own home made wine or beer?

I made 9 gals this year. I don't know the names of the grapes, but I mixed mine. Half white and half red. My best advice I can give you is everything has to be sanitized, everything. You don't want to go through all that work only to lose it all to a yeast infection. I learned the hard way.

Keeping everything clean is very important. We crushed our grapes last Sunday and have the wine in the barrels. Now it's time to wait for the second ML fermintation before we rack the wine.
