Annual Modesto Holiday Parade

It's that time of year again and Modesto is having it's annual Celebration of Lights Holiday Parade. We have participated the last 2 years and have had a great time.

The parade is scheduled for Saturday December 5, 2009 and this years theme is "Hollywood Holidays". http://www.ci.modesto.ca.us/prnd/eve...y%20Packet.pdf

Please post up and let me know if your going to participate and don't worry about the cost, it's covered.

cool.......anyone else?

I'm going to decorate my truck using what I already have from the past 2 years and not really worry about this years theme. Trying to keep the cost down.

Excellent I have taken care of the registration, so we are good to go. I'll post up more details in the next couple of days about when and where we are going to meet up.

It was good talking to you at the Good-Guys show yesterday.

We'll meet at my house, clean the trucks or test things if needed, and then cruise over to the parade where we will decorate the trucks. We usually have 1 1/2 hours to decorate the trucks at the parade staging area.

Purchase a DC to AC inverter to plug into your cigaret lighter and LED lights. Some of us have also purchased battery packs to supply some power as well. The blow up type of decorations pull a bit of amps so you'll want to purchase 125 or 150 Amp inverter. Also check that your cigaret lighter works and bring extra fuses just in case you pop one.

Teo, besides the LED Christmas lights (very important to use LED as they pull lots less juice than regular lites!) and an inverter, I bought a Duracel power pack:

It was kind of expensive, but it lasted two hours. I used it to power my blow-up display, a floodlight, and a cd player with Christmas music (Nutcracker Suite).

I used the inverter to power all the LED lights, and there was no problem. I got the inverter at Kragen. If you wire it directly to the truck battery, you can pull more amps (= more lites) than if you plug it in to the cigar lighter.

I bought some black plastic duct tape at the hardware store to hold the lights to the sides of my L. You can get red tape very easily.

I will probably use my Jack Skellington display again if Marg can get the day (night) off. No telling yet. Jack was very popular the first year we did it.

Mine puts out 115 volts/60hz at 400 watts. Add up the watts needed for all the strings of lites you are going to use, and get one that will supply what's needed. I would say at least 400w, more if you can afford it.

But don't go too big. It may draw more than your alternator can supply!
