| Guest | First, my condolences to Joe for the passing of his Dad. For a good time follow this route if you have the time. I was at Kaiser in Santa Clara this morning and finished early so I made this old familiar trip to tune-up the cornering skills again. Take Highway 9 at Highway 17 in Los Gatos to Saratoga, turn left on Big Basin Way and head thru the village and start up the mountain to the summit. Be careful for the law on this part. When you reach the Summit Road stop sign go across and head toward Big Basin and then Boulder Creek. This road has finally been restored to it's original smooth well-banked form. Some of the best series of turns anywhere are here. When you get to the Redwood Elementary school outside of Boulder Creek slow down and be cool into Boulder Creek. Turn left on Bear Creek Road and head back up the mountain to the top and a right on Summit Road. Very narrow and twisty, go past Upper Zyante Road and keep going. When you see an overgrazed hillside populated with Llamas you're passing through Steve Wosniack's ranch, the guy who had a little to do with what we are using to communicate on, only called Apple. Follow this road all the way to Hiway 17 at the summit and go over the freeway and turn left a the stop sign. You're back on Summit Road headed into Loma Prieta which was earthquake central some time back, follow this a few miles past the store and turn right on Old San Jose/Soquel road. Take this to busy downtown Soquel. At the light go straight across a few blocks to the next light and view Carpo's burger joint on the far left corner of the intersection. By far the best burgers in Northern California. If you haven't had enough, drive it backward's or Hiway 1 is right next to Carpo's and you can head north to Highway 17 in Santa Cruz and make your way back to San Jose. Don't do this on a sunny weekend or you will probably mash some maniacs on rice rockets. They sacrifice themselves on a regular basis during the weekends. Best time is a weekday around lunchtime so if any roadcrews are working they will just watch you fly by while they take there lunchbreak. Mark Hebard |

| Guest | Joe, I want to offer my condolences for your father, it sounds like we have lost one of the great ones, and I'm sad that I was not able to me him. Hey Mark I work in Scotts Valley right off of Scotts Valley Dr. So I take that route(kinda) all the time. I just go all the way till I get to Felton then I take Granite Creek Rd. to Mt. Hermon Rd. to Scotts Valley Dr. then to the office which is right there at the Hwy 17 on ramps. It's a fun drive I highly recommend it! ------------------ Jeff Red 94L #1962 White 85 GT, Norcal Shelby Club Track car & SCCA E-SP Autocross Monster [This message has been edited by Jeff Dalbec (edited 03-07-2001).] [This message has been edited by Jeff Dalbec (edited 03-07-2001).] |

| Guest | Thanks guys, I the coming weeks I think I'll need to go for a ride some where nice. Yesterday I took the truck out to run an erand and opened up a six pack of wup *** on a SS Camero. That was for my dad. Now all I need to do is fix the oil leaks and tune it. ------------------ -Joe C. #5190 in '93 13.80 @ 99.00 (so far) |
