| 2004 SVT LIGHTNING | anyone good with ford 6.0 diesels here? im looking to get an 06 f250 powerstroke. ive got a friend who has an 07 and hasent had a single issue with 90k miles. Just about every single diesel forum i go on say the 6.0s have crazy isssues. i know this is true for the 03-early 05's. but i don't know. Sad thing is id be trading the L in for it any info on these trucks would be great and more convincing to keep the L |

Having said that, I suspect these trucks were all driven like they were stolen so there is probably more to the story. I checked out at least 20 f350 Power Strokes at a Richie Bros equipment auction and most were pretty rough. These were 03-07 trucks with over 150 K and a ton of hours. Although I typically buy Ford, the only diesel trucks I would have driven home from that auction were Dodges or GMs although I did end up buying an 05 F350 with a 5.4. I think if the truck checks out and you know some history for the vehicle you may be alright. I would be cautious about buying one with high hours, especially if it has been fueled up from a saddle tank or some construction company tank. Any dirt or water in the fuel used in any diesel engine is not good and it is difficult to say if the fuel from these sources is free of contaminants. Good luck with your purchase. |

View this user's gallery iTrader: 11 / 100% | Ive owned a 04' and an 06' 6.0 truck.........I now own an 06' with a V10 if that tells you anything..... The 04' truck had headgasket issues when I traded it in on the 06' The 06' lost the headgaskets, and I put new gaskets and headstuds in it. When I got rid of it the gaskets were leaking again. Along with other issues I had with it over the 50k miles I owned it. You couldnt give me a 6.0 or the current 6.4; I had a 7.3 and it never gave me any problems. Maybe when the 6.7 comes out I'll consider another Diesel truck, but for now Im happy with my V10 and no maintenance costs other than $20 to change the oil and filter. You might want to price oil, filter, fuel filters, air filters, and such when looking at the 6.0 and 6.4's........

| Fuglydog | My '06 leaked oil from 100 miles until 36,000 at which point ford bought it back. That motor was a disaster. I owned it three years to the day. Dropped it off at the dealer on the last day of the warranty and took home a '09 6.4. for the remainder of my loan. There is no way I'd own a 6.0l without getting a screaming deal on it and prepared to spend some money when (not if) it develops problems. If you chip it you will need head studs for sure. Your best bet is to find a clean 7.3...then a 6.4 or hold out for the 6.7 next year. I'd kill to have my '02 7.3 back. Id have a great, reliable truck, and about 60K$ more to my name. |
