| Registered User | it will have a 396 very soon, i hope. somebody put a 350 in it at some point in it's life...and that's gonna get tossed no matter what. it's weak. buddy of mine in Atlanta is thinkin about taking a super hot 396/4 speed combo out of his camaro before giving it to his kid...if he actually does ditch it, i'll try to buy it from him first mod will be 4 wheel disc brakes and probably 17" rally wheels...not sure about the wheels yet cause i kinda dig the 15" American Racing wheels, LOL |

| Registered User | Check and see if that 396 has a flat tappet or a roller cam. If it has flat tappet you run the risk of premature cam damage due to the new oil formulations removing zinc additives. If you want to keep running a flat tappet cam in an old style engine.. Then you either have to put in a zinc additive, which Comp Cams and some other guys make, or run Royal Purple oil that seems to be the only synthetic left that still has the high levels of ZDP and zinc.. It's advisable to add a zinc additive even with a roller cam. My buddy just experienced this with his 65 Impala SS and is in the process of a rebuild that he was not planning on doing any time soon with only about 25K miles on the rebuilt 396. |

| Klaatu Barrada Nikto Paid Member | I have always loved the El Camino... except for the '73-'77s. Nice catch. So what happened to the Acura acquisition?

![]() Well then, out of Mexicana and into Mullet-ville! I'm just razzing you. ("Mexican", really?) Your new "El" is beautiful. I agree that a BBC/4-speed is need but also think about a more "Old School" Torque-Thrust rim, one with a matte-grey center and aluminum lip...just think about it, pure muscle! | |
