| Guest | I just installed BellSouth DSL service and it is definitely much faster than my AT&T Worldnet dial-up (connected at 49K), but it lags all the time, it will just sit there after I have clicked on a link for about 45sec to 1.5min and then load the next link/page "lightning quick" Anyone out there have this problem? I lowered the security settings on my ZoneAlarm firewall, didn't help, I shut down ZoneAlarm, didn't help, I rebooted my machine, didn't help, I unplugged my telephone from my other port, didn't help, I exited all programs on my task bar, didn't help. I have 256MB of RAM and 12.5GB of free HD space, it says I have 49% of system resources free. My dial-up was faster (overall) than this, that is how bad it is. Called Bellsouth, they want to schedule a tech to come out and check my lines (hard to do, because I work 30min away). Any ideas from you more computer-savy board members?------------------ Ryan Speaks 2001 Silver #2617/6381 Assembled 4/4/01 Purchased 8/6/01 Stock |

| Guest | 49% resources free? What OS are your using and how fast (or not) is you processor? HD space, in this case, is irrelevant. To 'tweak' your TCP/IP settings for DSL or Cable Modem connection ONLY, try out the patches HERE!!! . It should help some. Also, do you have a 10 or 10/100 Network Adapter? | Guest | Have them check their DNS Servers. If they are not responding you are timing out then it is going to the next DNS Server in the list. You might try a different one that a friend is using or something to see if it helps. You might even reverse the servers, sounds like the second one is responding to request better. If you are DHCP you can still enter the servers in the tab and it will override the DHCP info. When that use to happen to me I used @home's server to test with, it is 24.2.252.33. Then I built my own here so I did not have to rely on someones server all the time. |

I have a 733mhx PIII running Win98. My ADSL modem doesn't use my 10/100 NIC card, they sent me an internal one that uses a standard phone line. Not sure I follow what you are talking about t-bone...I'm not the mose computer-literate person. Can you clarify? ------------------ Ryan Speaks 2001 Silver #2617/6381 Assembled 4/4/01 Purchased 8/6/01 Stock | |

| Guest | rspeaks, Sorry, I didn't clarify. What I meant was: 49% FREE!?!?!?! EGADS Good god man, what else were you running(programs, apps, etc.)? Something is a resource HOG. Maybe just WIN98. hehe T-Bone's advice is correct. Without going into "Tech Speak" , just request the tech check their DNS servers and verify your configuration. He'll know what to do.Also, if you have an Alcatel ADSL modem, you may be interested in this... http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,47004,00.asp Bob |

| Guest | I had a similar problem with the cable system at Comcast @home when they took over for AT&T. Told them it must be their servers. They said no, (big surprise) and wanted to check out MY equipment, as they figured it had to be me. After much checking and much wasting of time, they decided it was a problem with their servers. ------------------ Stevie-Ray NLOC #606 MILOC #21 2000 Red L #3460 DOB 5-31 ARE LSII BedRug Custom mats Clear tails Keypad Entry JL Stage II Ram Air 2001 Ranger 4X4 Daily Driver GOD BLESS AMERICA!
