I use a simple .5 sec delay. Start power at 50% and build to max over 1 sec. I do not use a window switch or any rpm tuning.

Thanks for the tip. I haven't used the 1st gear lock-out feature and don't plan to. I have my controller set-up exactly like you desribed and it's worked great so far.
